Rainwater Harvesting

Announcing a new training opportunity! The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and OSU-OKC are offering a training event on Rainwater Harvesting on Monday, March 8 from 10:30-2:30 at the Oklahoma County Extension Center at 930 N. Portland by the campus of OSU-Oklahoma City.

The training will include a live ASCE Web/Teleconference Seminar “Engineered Rainwater Collection and Case Studies for Sustainable Water Management” and a tour of the new rainfall harvesting system at OSU-OKC.

There is a site fee of $299 for the webinar, so we will be charging a nominal fee for this training which will be dependent on the number of people who attend. Previously I had sent out an announcement and 23 people indicated that they would be interested in attending. If 23 people attended, the fee would be $299/23=$13. Additionally, since the training will be going over lunch, we will plan to purchase sub sandwiches and soda for everyone in attendance and pass the hat to pay for that (max of $5 per person). As indicated below, you can earn 1.5 professional development hours for attending the ASCE webinar. Payment for the training will be accepted by check the day of the event.

The preliminary schedule for this training will be as follows:

10:30-11:00 Registration

11:00-12:30 ASCE webinar “Engineered Rainwater Collection and Case Studies for Sustainable Water Management”

12:30-1:15 Lunch, with presentations by OSU Extension Engineer Sharla Lovern, PE, and Dr. Jeff Sallee, OSU 4-H Youth Development about the rainwater harvesting system at Skyline Elementary in Stillwater, rain barrel construction, and the statewide 4-H Rainfall Harvesting Program

1:15-2:00 Tour of the rainfall harvesting system at OSU-OKC by Dave Edwards, OSU-OKC Horticulture Department

2:00-2:30 Wrap-up discussion

Feedback and additions to this schedule are encouraged if there is something additional regarding rainwater harvesting you would like see on the agenda.

To confirm your participation in this event, please respond to Jason Vogel (jason.vogel@okstate.edu) by March 1, 2010. If you decide to attend after March 1 we will not turn you away, but that will give us an idea for planning purposes of the number of people that will be attending.
